Scholarship Auditions
(For Current Undergraduate Students who will be continuing their undergraduate music studies at an accredited Alabama College or University for the 2025-2026 academic year)
Saturday, March 8, 2025, Buchanan Hall, Samford University
$2,500 First Place Piano – Mildred Volentine Green Scholarship
$1,500 Second Place Piano – Charles C. and Julia W. Anderson Piano Scholarship
$2,500 First Place Voice – Penelope Cunningham Voice Scholarship
$1,500 Second Place Voice – Dr. Oscar and Ellen Dahlene Scholarship for Voice
$2,500 First Place Instrumental – Stuart Mims Instrumental Scholarship
$1,500 Second Place Instrumental – The Guild of the BMC Instrumental Scholarship
$2,500 First Place String Instrument – NEW
$1,500 Second Place String Instrument – NEW
$1,000 Best Performance Award selected from the First Place Winners – the Walter Sechriest Award, an additional $1,000 for the overall winner.
Judges will select First and Second Place winners in each category. No student who has won the first prize in any previous year will be eligible to compete again.
Scholarship awards are to be used during the 2025-2026 academic year for undergraduate work in the above fields at an accredited music university in the State of Alabama. The maximum age for contestants is 23 years. You will find repertoire requirements here as well as an application form and payment link.
Applications with payment must be received by February 24, 2025. For questions regarding the auditions, please email Phyllis Pelham at scholarship.theguildbmc@gmail.com. Further instructions and audition times will be emailed to students after all applications are received.
Winners Perform for the Guild
The First Place Recipients will be honored and must perform on the Program of the Spring Luncheon for the Guild of the Birmingham Music Club on Thursday, April 10, 2025. Failure to participate may result in forfeiture of the scholarship award.
